Practicing what we preach with our inclusive event committee

Who better to choose our activities than our community?
Until recently, the OSG team had planned all our member activities. Thanks to some great feedback, we realized it was time for our adults to take a more active role in planning the events that most interested them. And so, the OSG Event Committee known as the Stomping Zoomies was born.
Created by OSG’s newest volunteers Rosie & Scotch Perdue, along with their daughter Maggie and Mike Manion, the group meets every two weeks on Zoom to plan and vote on future activities.
Since July, the Stomping Zoomies have voted on and enjoyed:
- A trip to 5 Wits Adventure Room
- An outing to the Old Town Alexandria Farmers Market, Torpedo Factory and Pop’s Ice Cream Shop
- A visit to the National Museum of Natural History in DC
- Bowling and pizza at Bowlero Arcade in Arlington
The group has an outdoor Halloween Movie Night watching Hotel Transylvania on October 29th, and an upcoming outing to the Army Museum.

Beyond deciding which activities the group would like to pursue, the meetings encourage open discussion, Zoom etiquette and sharpening the critical executive functioning skills associated with planning and attending social events. The goal is to encourage as much independence as possible for those involved.

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Andrew Hay recently told us, “There’s something for everybody here and we can all find something we like, no matter who we are or what we like!”
If you’d like to join the Stomping Zoomies, sign up through our event calendar and be on the lookout for upcoming activities.
