Gilliam on the Pike

We are happy to report that all of our new friends are settling in at Gilliam Place. We are getting to know each other and our neighbors in the building. We love our new Harris Teeter just a 15 minute walk away. There are We We are happy to report that all of our new friends are settling in at Gilliam Place. Some great restaurants in the neighborhood and we are also enjoying checking out some new places.

Many of you have mentioned that you would love a tour of the building and a chance to see one of the apartments. Please check out Jeannie Cummins, upcoming social scheduled for April 21st. There will be opportunities for tours as well as a potluck and chance to meet new friends. For those of you who have not yet met Jeannie, she is the Senior Regional Housing Coordinator for Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services, and a great resource for our community.

We are also hosting friends for daily walks in the neighborhood so please reach out if you would like to join us soon. The first Sunday of every month you can find us at 10:45 AM in the lobby. We are meeting for services at the Arlington Presbyterian Church at 11 AM. We are very grateful to the congregation and their vision of what a faith community can do to serve their neighbors. After-school tutoring groups have begun and have been very well received. Students in the building meet with community volunteers after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 PM. We are very excited for the opportunity to demonstrate that this partnership not only serves the DD population but that our inclusion in housing and communities improves the lives of everyone. Our pilot is definitely off to a great start. The excitement of the students is palatable and everyone was disappointed by the recent cancellation due to COVID-19.

Hope to see you on the Pike very soon!
