Social Justice Club
Our weekly discussion where we unpack Ibram X. Kendi’s acclaimed book, Stamped from the Beginning.
Featured Event
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, we formed a Social Justice club a little over a year ago to begin delving into our country’s history. We started the conversation about equity while discussing Isabelle Wilkerson’s book, The Warmth of Other Suns. Currently, we’re reading and discussing Ibram X. Kendi’s acclaimed book, Stamped from the Beginning, which explores history and how racist ideas were created, spread, and still remain deeply rooted in American society. It’s an ambitious read, coming in at almost 600 pages, but our members are up for the challenge.
If you’d like to join the discussion but don’t feel up to tackling the long version, we recommend reading Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You by Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds, a shorter read on this important topic.
OSG member Huan told us: “The Social Justice Club has been very informative. There are so many historical facts regarding racism and discrimination that I have not been made aware of. As a group, we have been reading and analyzing well-written books, which has helped me understand them better and it surely beats reading them by myself! I look forward to attending the club every week.”
It’s not too late to join us, we meet every Thursday at 7 PM on Zoom. Sign up on our events page or email info@ourstompingground.org to become a part of the discussion.
