Events Calendar

Our Stomping Ground offers a variety of programs including book clubs, games nights, art and fitness classes and more. We are always adding new events. Be sure to explore our calendar and register for those programs that are of interest. Some events are open to just residents of a specific community, some are open to residents and Friends of OSG, and others are open to anyone in the Northern VA area.

Our OSG Arlington community is getting together each month to enjoy dinner together. This month, we’re going to pick up Tortas y Tacos La Chiquita and eat in the garden at Gilliam Place!

To prepare: You are responsible for paying for your own order, so please remember to bring a form of payment! You can view the menu here.

Meetup: Please either meet at Gilliam Place at 5:20pm to walk over to the restaurant together or meet directly at Tortas y Tacos La Chiquita at 5:30PM. Once we’ve ordered and recieved our food, we’ll return to Gilliam Place to eat in the garden.

The long-awaited summer concert series is here! Today, we’re getting together at Lubber Run Park to enjoy a performance by The 257th Army Band, also known as the “The Band of the Nation’s Capital.” They are the official musical ambassador for the D.C. Army National Guard!

Meet up: The concert is taking place at the Lubber Run Park Amphitheater. Although the concert starts at 8:00pm, we’d recommend arriving at Lubber Run Park by at least 7:30pm so we can find seating together.

To prepare: There’s seating provided around the stage, but if you want to sit farther away, you should bring a blanket or lawn chair to use on the grass. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks as needed (no alcohol).

Parking: There is free public parking at Lubber Run Park.

Join us for a hands-on cooking class designed for beginners! Learn to prepare a delicious and nutritious meal as we guide you step-by-step through making tacos and nachos.

To prepare: There is nothing you need to bring with you in order to participate. Wearing clothes that you don’t mind possibly getting stained is advised.

Meet up: Please meet in the community room at the Waypoint. If you’re not a resident, please message the Waypoint Community Whatsapp group so you can be let into the building.

Join our Queens Court community to visit the National Museum of American History in Washington D.C. and explore a variety of historical and modern exhibits!

Meetup: Our walking group will head out from Queens Court at 10am and take the blue/orange/silver metro line together from the Rosslyn metro station to the Smithsonian metro station near the museum. If you are going to meet us directly at the museum, then plan to arrive by 11am. Please note that public parking is limited in downtown DC, so using public transport or ride share is advised.

To prepare: Please review the following information carefully.

  • Attire: Everyone is encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • Museum entrance: Entering this museum is free and does not require additional registration after you RSVP with OSG.
  • Public transport: If you’re taking the metro, please remember to bring your SmarTrip Card, or your Metro Access Card and a government id. Alternatively, you can bring cash/debit/credit card and purchase a roundtrip pass.
  • Food/drink: You may want to bring a water bottle and a snack in a closed container.

Join our Gilliam Place community as we take the local bus to Jake’s Ice Cream for sweet summer treats. Jake’s Ice Cream is an artisanal shop that proudly employs many adults with disabilities, including some of our very own OSG friends!

Meet up: If you’d like to ride the bus with our group, please meet us at Gilliam Place (918 S Lincoln St, Arlington, VA 22204) by 1pm so that we’re sure to catch the bus on time! We won’t be able to wait for anyone who is late. If you have your own transportation and want to meet us directly at Jake’s Ice Cream, then plan to arrive at the shop around 1:45pm.

To prepare: If you’re riding the bus, please bring at least $4 in cash or your SmarTrip card. If you qualify for the Reduced Fare program as a person with a disability or as a senior, be sure to carry a government id with you as well. Everyone planning to buy ice cream should bring their own payment method (cash, credit card, etc.).

Our OSG Alexandria community is getting together each month to enjoy dinner together. Each month, we’ll choose a restaurant near one of our Alexandria properties. This month, we’re going to Foster’s Grille near the Arden.
