Events Calendar

Our Stomping Ground offers a variety of programs including book clubs, games nights, art and fitness classes and more. We are always adding new events. Be sure to explore our calendar and register for those programs that are of interest. Some events are open to just residents of a specific community, some are open to residents and Friends of OSG, and others are open to anyone in the Northern VA area.

Where: Gilliam Place (918 S Lincoln St, Arlington, VA 22204); We’ll meet in the Community Room

What: Create in community through group art therapy sessions every Friday afternoon! We will explore using various art mediums that will encourage self expression and creativity! The art mediums will range from fluid, such as watercolors and paints, to 3D sensory stimulating mediums, such as clay and sculpture materials.

IMPORTANT: Some protective materials and aprons will be available since the art supplies can be messy, but it is advised that you wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting paint on and could possibly be stained.

Please join us on February 2, 2023 at the Pozez Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (the JCC) for the launch of their 10th annual ReelAbilities Film Festival, featuring an art sale and film screening that includes members of the OSG community.

ART SALE OPENS AT 6:00 PM

Original-signed, matted art from 26-year-old Amrit Khurana–an artist from Noida, India who has non-speaking autism. Proceeds from the art sale will support Amrit and OSG.

FILM SCREENING AT 7:00 PM

The Reason I Jump is an immersive cinematic exploration of neurodiversity through the experiences of non-speaking autistic people from around the world. The film features Amrit as well as OSG members Ben McGann and Emma Budway (pictured left), who will host a Q&A discussion following the screening.

Our OSG Arlington community is getting together on the first Wednesday of every month to enjoy dinner together. Each month, we’ll choose a restaurant near one of our Arlington properties. All are welcome (no matter where you live)!

For this month’s outing, we’ll be going to Kabobistan (3400 VA-244, Arlington, VA 22204). Please meet in the Gilliam Place lobby at 5:15PM to walk together from there, or meet us directly at the restaurant at 5:30PM.

What: A weekend outing planned and hosted by the Stomping Zoomies Committee

Set against the historic backdrop of DC’s oldest neighborhood, Georgetown GLOW is the region’s only free curated outdoor public light art experience. It features five national and international artists and their commissioned works. Further event details can be found here.

IMPORTANT: We’ll meet near 3000 K St. NW to walk through the exhibit together, so keep an eye out for the OSG flag! Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event. Although the GLOW event is free, parking in the area is usually not. Please also bring a form of payment if you plan to shop/eat/drink in Georgetown.

What: Hands-on lesson in meal planning and preparation

Are you wondering how to simplify your grocery shopping and home cooking experience? Bring your shopping list and empty bellies! After this segment with Chef B from Soul Good Kitchen, you will feel more motivated to create, shop, and feed yourselves and your families.

You’re invited to our monthly movie night at our Queens Court community. Together we’ll watch Home Alone 2 and enjoy each other’s company. Please feel free to bring popcorn, snacks, blankets, or anything you need to be comfortable.

The movie night will be held in the Queens Court community room. All are welcome, however, it is mandatory to sign up so we have an accurate headcount and we ask that you please arrive at 6:30 PM sharp since a key card is needed to enter the building.

Chef will guide you through the final preparations of a delicious four-course meal, paired with three hand-selected Italian wines from our friends at Impero Wine Distributors VA.

  • Pick Up: Please head to Paula Manion’s house, 7903 Scott Court, Springfield, VA 22153 on February 5th between 2:00 – 4:00 pm EST. 
  • Delivery: This service is available for those within a 30-mile radius of Lorton, VA (see cost and sign up details below). 
  • Zoom livecast: The link and other prep instructions will be emailed to you on February 5th. Be prepared to join online by 6:00 pm EST.  
  • Bonus!: We’re delighted to share that this year’s dinner features a very special twist: One lucky winner will welcome Chef to their home and together, they will prepare their Valentine’s meal during the livecast (see option to enter to win below).

Appetizer: Meat and cheese platter 

1st Course: Polenta ed Agnello

  • Fried parmesan and rosemary polenta served with lamb lollipops and drizzled creamy truffle sauce

2nd Course: Gnocchi zafferano e porcino

  • Gnocchi in creamy saffron sauce with porcini mushrooms

3rd Course: Please select your preference.

  • Meat option: Brasato di Manzo (braised short ribs ragu) served over saffron mashed potato 
  • Vegetarian option: Eggplant parmesan

4th Course: Chocolate profiteroles

  • Cream puffs surrounded by vanilla and chocolate cream 

You will need the following items to prepare your dinner: 

  • Oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Sauté pan, aluminum foil, cutting board, knife, salt and pepper, extra virgin olive oil, six plates for serving, two wine glasses, wine key

 

ABOUT OUR PARTNERS

Chef Danilo Orofino, owner of Orofino restaurant in Fredericksburg, VA, studied culinary arts in his native Sicily where he opened his first restaurant at the age of 18 and went on to become a chef at Eataly in Manhattan, New York. He’s passionate about great food, Italian culture, and creating unique dining experiences.

Roberto D’Onofrio owns Impero Wine Distributors based out of Lorton, VA. Impero specializes in Italian wines and alongside Chef Danilo, has graciously supported our previous (and highly successful) wine and dinner fundraising events.

Our OSG Alexandria community is getting together each month to enjoy dinner together. Each month, we’ll choose a restaurant near one of our Alexandria properties. All are welcome (no matter where you live)!

For this month’s outing, we’ll be going to Silver Diner (4630 King St, Unit A3 Alexandria, Virginia 22302). Please meet us directly at the restaurant at 5:15PM. For those driving themselves, there’s complimentary parking at the Harris Teeter garage. Please remember to bring a form of payment!
