Events Calendar

Our Stomping Ground offers a variety of programs including book clubs, games nights, art and fitness classes and more. We are always adding new events. Be sure to explore our calendar and register for those programs that are of interest. Some events are open to just residents of a specific community, some are open to residents and Friends of OSG, and others are open to anyone in the Northern VA area.

Calling all thrill-seekers who are ready to get spooked! Join us at Field of Screams for a frightfully good time exploring two haunted trails AND a haunted house.

Meet up: We will arrive and check-in by 6:00pm.

**If you previously purchased your ticket for 10/14 when we experienced a rain cancellation, you don’t have to buy another one. Your original ticket will automatically apply for any day and time of your choosing.** 

To prepare: In addition to registering with OSG, you MUST purchase a ticket directly from the Field of Screams website.You MUST also sign an online waiver because there are risks associated with this experience. You cannot participate in the event without doing these two things! You can find answers to other FAQ’s here.

IMPORTANT: This event is meant to be scary and includes other potential risks like uneven, slippery walking paths and several special effects that could be unpleasant or harmful. Please do not participate if you think this experience could negatively impact your health or safety. OSG is providing other opportunities to celebrate Halloween with friends this month!

Create in community through this group art therapy session led by Garine! We will explore using various art mediums that will encourage self expression and creativity.

Meet up: Please meet in the first floor club room at the Ovation at Arrowbrook. A key is needed to enter the building, so please message the Herndon Community Whatsapp group upon arrival if you’re not an Ovation resident, so you can be let in.

To prepare: It is advised that you wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting paint on and could possibly be stained.

Once again, the International Spy Museum is hosting their sensory friendly program designed exclusively for neurodivergent adults and their loved ones for FREE!

Meet up: We plan to meet at the International Spy Museum at 5pm for a social hour with light refreshments, the opportunity to meet a former spy, and more. At 6pm, we can check out the exhibits in groups, and there’ll even be a scavenger hunt with prizes!

To prepare: You MUST reserve a ticket from the International Spy Museum website to participate in this event. Registering with OSG is not enough as this just gives us a headcount for our group. This is a popular event, so get your ticket(s) sooner than later!

It’s time for our annual Halloween Party!

  • Dinner, treats, and candy to satisfy your taste buds.

SAVE THE DATE! Our friends at Arlington Presbyterian Church are hosting their 3rd annual garden party to benefit OSG. Come enjoy this special evening and discover Véronneau, an award-winning jazz band.
Meet up: There will be food available from “The Cafe” starting at 6pm, and the music starts at 7pm. The event will take place in the community garden behind Gilliam Place, on the corner of 9th and Lincoln.
To prepare: Attendance is FREE but donations are always welcome to help support OSG’s mission. Don’t forget to bring a blanket or a chair so you can comfortably enjoy the music.

You’re invited to view a newly released short film about Disability Inclusion by Voice of America that features OSG’s very own residents at Gilliam Place! We are proud of our friends who shared their stories and are excited for you all to see the film.

Meet up: We will meet in the first floor community room at Gilliam Place at 5pm. If you are also registered to attend the Arlington Dinner starting at 5:30pm, we can walk to the restaurant together after viewing the film.

In partnership with Ultimate Magic Academy, we’ve created a bespoke magic workshop exclusively for OSG!

Learn from professional magicians how to read minds, predict the future, perform amazing card tricks, and more! All custom props and tricks are included in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. You’ll walk away with a minimum of 10 amazing tricks by the end of the 6 sessions.

Finally, on December 12th show off your new magic tricks at our SHOWCASE and dazzle your family and friends. Emcee for the showcase is none other than Joe Romano, founder of Ultimate School Shows.

Our OSG Friends ages 21 and up are invited to OSG Nights– a series for adults to enjoy local nightlife as a crew. This time, we’re hanging out at Aslin Beer Co in Herndon. Join us for some brews and bites!

Our OSG Herndon community is getting together each month to enjoy dinner together. This month, we’re going to Pizza Twist. All are welcome (no matter where you live)!

Our friends at Fairlington Presbyterian Church are hosting a film screening of The Reason I Jump! Based on the book by Naoki Higashida, this immersive film explores the experiences of non-speaking autistic people around the world.

It also features two of our very own Gilliam Place residents, Emma Budway and Ben McGann, who are generously offering their time for a Q&A panel following the film screening. Additionally, there will be art pieces for sale by Amrit Khurana, who is an autistic young woman and featured artist in the Reason I Jump.

Meet up: The film screening is taking place on the second floor of Fairlington Presbyterian Church, in the Social Hall. Free parking is available at the church on both sides of the building.
