Our Stomping Ground offers a variety of programs including book clubs, games nights, art and fitness classes and more. We are always adding new events. Be sure to explore our calendar and register for those programs that are of interest. Some events are open to just residents of a specific community, some are open to residents and Friends of OSG, and others are open to anyone in the Northern VA area.

OSG is cooling off this summer at Ocean Dunes Waterpark! This Waterpark is loaded with fun features including a 500-gallon dumping bucket, water slides, waterfalls and squirters. Join the fun and meet new friends! All are welcome, but please register so we know to expect you.

Attendance details:

Participants are responsible for their own transportation, as well as paying for their admission ticket (costs $13.00) when they arrive. To find the OSG group, look for the flag! Participants are welcome to stay after for as long as they want since it’s an all-day ticket, but the OSG event will be formally over at 1pm. This is the link to the rules and regulations for participants to read beforehand and come prepared with any individual supports.

The Marine Corps Sunset Parade is one of Washington’s many wonderful free events during the summer and well worth doing. Their famed Silent Drill Team is a highlight, but the parade also features The Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps, also known as the Commandant’s Own. It’s a great opportunity to see a world-class military ceremony and to show support for men and women in uniform. You can learn more about the event here.

OSG is planning to attend meeting at 6 PM at Queens Court and then walk over. If you’d wish to meet us there please meet at 1000 Marshall Dr, Arlington, VA 22209.

The OSG crew is getting together to attend a free summer concert at Lubber Run Park! This Summer Concert series features free performances from a variety of genres including big band, blues, soul and orchestral music to the Lubber Run Amphitheater.  Learn more about the concert series here.

On August 11th, we’ll enjoy the 257th Army Band, or “The Band of the Nation’s Capital.” They’re the official musical ambassador for the D.C. Army National Guard. Noteworthy performances include musical support for the Inauguration of President Obama, performances in Greece, Jamaica, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Panama, consecutive appearances at the Great American Brass Band Festival and concert tours throughout New England, Texas and the Mid-Atlantic.

 

Attendance details:

We’ll meet up at the Lubber Run Amphitheater. While the concert begins at 8:00 PM, we encourage you to arrive at 7:30 PM so we can find seating together. Please RSVP here on our website so we know to expect you.

 

You’re invited to our monthly movie night at our Queens Court community. Together we’ll watch Mulan the live-action movie and enjoy each other’s company. Please feel free to bring popcorn, snacks, blankets, or anything you need to be comfortable.

The movie night will be held in the Queens Court community room. All are welcome, however, it is mandatory to sign up so we have an accurate headcount and we ask that you please arrive at 6:30 PM sharp since a key card is needed to enter the building.

Get your thinking caps on – it’s time for trivia! Join your OSG friends as we compete for bragging rights.

There will be 3 categories are Space, Broadway Musicals, and Washington D.C.. In each category, there will be 10 questions, and a bonus round per category.

Join Arlington Presbyterian and Our Stomping Ground for a viewing of the award-winning documentary The Reason I Jump. This 90 minute film illuminates the diverse experiences and emotions of five young people with autism including Gilliam Place residents Emma Budway & Benjamin McGann.

 

Join us for a little friendly bingo competition and win some fun (and possibly tasty) prizes, kindly donated by our friends at Fairlington Presbyterian Church.

This is the perfect opportunity to get to know other OSG members and socialize in a safe environment.

Join us to see Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back at Wolftrap accompanied by a live orchestra performance.  The film will be projected in HD onto screens in-house and on the lawn and accompanied by the music of by The National Symphony Orchestra.

On July 23rd we’ll enjoy the band Soul Crackers.  Their music encompasses Memphis & Motown soul, and features timeless songs by artists like Otis Redding, Average White Band, Martha & The Vandellas & Stevie Wonder among many others. This is the music that brings all ages and personalities together to a dance party.

We’re getting together for a summer ice cream social! Together we’ll visit Jake’s Ice Cream, an artisanal ice cream shop that hires adults with disabilities. Join us to support some of the OSG employees who work there, socialize with friends, and of course enjoy some delicious scoops.
