Events Calendar

Our Stomping Ground offers a variety of programs including book clubs, games nights, art and fitness classes and more. We are always adding new events. Be sure to explore our calendar and register for those programs that are of interest. Some events are open to just residents of a specific community, some are open to residents and Friends of OSG, and others are open to anyone in the Northern VA area.

Create and express yourself through a group art therapy session with Hannah!

This particular session is co-hosted by graduate interns from GW’s Milken Institute School of Public Health as part of the Health Matters program. You are welcome to participate even if you aren’t a current Health Matters student.

Where: Gilliam Place (918 S Lincoln St, Arlington, VA 22204); We’ll meet in the Community Room

To prepare: All art supplies will be provided to you at the event. Some protective materials and aprons will be available since the art supplies can be messy, but it is advised that you wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting paint on and could possibly be stained.

Learn to prepare easy, nutritious meals through a hands-on cooking class! We’ll make delicious dishes together, including lasagna zucchini boats, avocado toast, whole grain pasta, and black bean brownies.

Our OSG Arlington community is getting together on the first Wednesday of every month to enjoy dinner together. Each month, we’ll choose a restaurant near one of our Arlington properties. All are welcome (no matter where you live)!

Where: For this month’s outing, we’ll be going to Kabobistan (3400 Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA 22204) near Gilliam Place.

When: Please either meet at Gilliam Place at 5:15PM to walk over together OR meet directly at the restaurant at 5:30PM.

To prepare: You are responsible for paying for your own order, so please remember to bring a form of payment!

Where: Cherry Hill Park in Falls Church City

The 29th Annual Tinner Hill Music Festival is quite possibly one of NOVA’s best-kept live music secrets, drawing crowds from across the states to tiny Falls Church City. If you’ve yet to experience this fantastic, family-friendly day out, this is the year to correct that oversight!

Tickets are on sale now to enjoy this culturally rich, live music and arts festival – the premier charity event established to celebrate and honor the African American legacy through the Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation.

Performers include Dumpstaphunk, one of New Orleans’ best and funkiest bands to ever arise from the Crescent City, and Joe Louis Walker, Blues Hall of Fame inductee and six-time Blues Music Award winner. This sensational event which features food, art displays, art exhibits, and activities like yoga, is for persons of all ages.

Where: Not Your Average Joe’s (1845 FOUNTAIN DR, RESTON, VA, 20190)

What: Join OSG and our Herndon community for a restaurant outing at Not Your Average Joe’s. All are welcome! Check out the restaurant menu here.

When: We’ll meet directly at the restaurant at 5:30PM. Participants are responsible for their own transportation.

2019 saw the birth of Our Stomping Ground with the goal of helping adults with disabilities live interdependently in affordable housing developments and inclusive communities. Barely four years later and we’re stepping things up a bit with the launch of our First Annual OSG 5k/10k.

Registration Fees

  • 5k – $30, until Apr 30 ($35)
  • 10k – $45, until Apr 30 ($50)
  • ***Price will increase on race morning by $5 for each distance

  • Walkers and strollers are welcome to attend this event!
  • Virtual Race Option: Bishop events offers a virtual run option for those who cannot make it on race day. Find more information here.

  • Live Race Results: Live results will be posted on Athlinks.com. Additionally, there will be a QR code at the race for you to scan to immediately view your results. Final race results with series points will be posted to our website on the Monday following your race.
  • Awards: The top 3 men and women overall will be awarded during an awards ceremony post-race. The 1st male and female in these categories will also be awarded: 19&Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, & 70+. Runners who place top 3 overall in their race are not eligible to also win their age groups.

What: A weekend outing planned and hosted by the Stomping Zoomies Committee
When: 10:30AM-12:00PM (At around 11:30AM, we will grab a snack from the nearby food trucks)

The cherry blossoms are blooming in DC this month, so the Stomping Zoomies Committee has planned an outing to check out the Blossom Kite Festival in front of the Washington Monument.

Be prepared: Please dress to be comfortable and warm, and plan to bring rain gear depending on the weather forecast. If you’d like to purchase something to eat from a local food truck, please bring a form of payment to do so. Bringing your own kite is encouraged but not required!

IMPORTANT: We’ll meet at the front of the Washington Monument prior to 10:30AM, so keep an eye out for the OSG flag! Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event. For those taking the metro, the closest station is the Smithsonian, which is an 8 minute walk to the Washington Monument.

Our OSG Alexandria community is getting together each month to enjoy dinner together. Each month, we’ll choose a restaurant near one of our Alexandria properties. All are welcome (no matter where you live)! For this month’s outing, we’ll be going to Guapo’s (4028 Campbell Ave, Arlington, VA 22206) near the Waypoint.

What: Doing Art Together (DARTT) is an inclusive space where participants with DD do arts and crafts together with an enthusiastic team of Arlington high school students.

When: Every Saturday, starting on Feb 4th at 10:30am (skipping February 13th) we will be doing an art project planned by our leadership team.

Where: DARTT will be in a virtual (Zoom) and in-person format on alternating weeks. For in-person sessions, the group will meet at Yorktown High School (5200 Yorktown Blvd, Arlington, VA 22207)

SCHEDULE: 02/04 virtual, 2/11 in-person, 2/18 virtual, 2/25 in-person, 3/4 virtual, 3/11 in-person

Note: All art projects can be done with household items and require minimal art skill. A schedule and supply list will be sent out.
