Events Calendar

Our Stomping Ground offers a variety of programs including book clubs, games nights, art and fitness classes and more. We are always adding new events. Be sure to explore our calendar and register for those programs that are of interest. Some events are open to just residents of a specific community, some are open to residents and Friends of OSG, and others are open to anyone in the Northern VA area.

SAVE THE DATE! Our friends at Arlington Presbyterian Church are hosting their 3rd annual garden party to benefit OSG. Come enjoy this special evening and discover Véronneau, an award-winning jazz band.
Meet up: There will be food available from “The Cafe” starting at 6pm, and the music starts at 7pm. The event will take place in the community garden behind Gilliam Place, on the corner of 9th and Lincoln.
To prepare: Attendance is FREE but donations are always welcome to help support OSG’s mission. Don’t forget to bring a blanket or a chair so you can comfortably enjoy the music.

You’re invited to view a newly released short film about Disability Inclusion by Voice of America that features OSG’s very own residents at Gilliam Place! We are proud of our friends who shared their stories and are excited for you all to see the film.

Meet up: We will meet in the first floor community room at Gilliam Place at 5pm. If you are also registered to attend the Arlington Dinner starting at 5:30pm, we can walk to the restaurant together after viewing the film.

In partnership with Ultimate Magic Academy, we’ve created a bespoke magic workshop exclusively for OSG!

Learn from professional magicians how to read minds, predict the future, perform amazing card tricks, and more! All custom props and tricks are included in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. You’ll walk away with a minimum of 10 amazing tricks by the end of the 6 sessions.

Finally, on December 12th show off your new magic tricks at our SHOWCASE and dazzle your family and friends. Emcee for the showcase is none other than Joe Romano, founder of Ultimate School Shows.

Our OSG Friends ages 21 and up are invited to OSG Nights– a series for adults to enjoy local nightlife as a crew. This time, we’re hanging out at Aslin Beer Co in Herndon. Join us for some brews and bites!

Our OSG Herndon community is getting together each month to enjoy dinner together. This month, we’re going to Pizza Twist. All are welcome (no matter where you live)!

Our friends at Fairlington Presbyterian Church are hosting a film screening of The Reason I Jump! Based on the book by Naoki Higashida, this immersive film explores the experiences of non-speaking autistic people around the world.

It also features two of our very own Gilliam Place residents, Emma Budway and Ben McGann, who are generously offering their time for a Q&A panel following the film screening. Additionally, there will be art pieces for sale by Amrit Khurana, who is an autistic young woman and featured artist in the Reason I Jump.

Meet up: The film screening is taking place on the second floor of Fairlington Presbyterian Church, in the Social Hall. Free parking is available at the church on both sides of the building.

To prepare: This event is free, but please bring a form of payment if you’re interested in supporting Amrit by purchasing her artwork. *Please RSVP so we can get an accurate headcount.

You’re invited to a movie night with our Queens Court community! Together we’ll watch this month’s group pick: The Cabin in the Woods.

Meet up: Please arrive by 6:00 PM and message the Movie Night Whatsapp group since a key card is needed to enter the building. After everyone has settled in, the movie will start promptly at 6:15PM.

To prepare: Please feel free to bring snacks, blankets, or anything you need to be comfortable.

Our OSG Arlington community is getting together on the first Wednesday of every month to enjoy dinner together. Each month, we’ll choose a spot near one of our Arlington properties. This month, we’re going to Lost Dog Cafe near Gilliam Place. All are welcome (no matter where you live)!

Meetup: Please either meet at Gilliam Place at 5:20pm to walk over to the restaurant together or meet directly at Lost Dog Cafe at 5:30PM.

Our OSG Alexandria community is getting together each month to enjoy dinner together. Each month, we’ll choose a restaurant near one of our Alexandria properties. This month, we’re going to Viet House at the Arden. All are welcome (no matter where you live).

In acknowledgment of Indigenous People’s Day in October, we’re taking a detour from our usual weekly walk and heading to the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C.

Meetup: Our walking group will head out from Queens Court at 9am and take the blue/orange/silver metro line together from the Rosslyn metro station to the L’Enfant metro station near the museum. If you’d like to meet us directly at the museum, then plan to arrive by 10am. Please note that public parking is limited in downtown DC, so using public transport or ride share is advised.

To prepare: Please review the following information carefully.

-Attire: Everyone is encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes.

-Museum entrance: Entering this museum is free and does not require additional registration after you RSVP with OSG.

-Public transport: If you’re taking the metro, please remember to bring your SmarTrip Card, or your Metro Access Card and a government id. Alternatively, you can bring cash/debit/credit card and purchase a roundtrip pass/.

-Food/drink: We highly encourage bringing a water bottle, but no other food or drink is permitted in the museum. There is a food court, so please bring a form of payment if you’d like to purchase something to eat or drink there.
